2006 Summer/Fall Event Series at the Park
The Elings Park Summer Event Series is a fantastic series of events that promote public outreach and fundraising for the Park. The 2006 series lineup of events promises to deliver maximum fun and entertainment for the community to enjoy. Each event is carefully tailored to attract patrons of different interests in order to showcase our wonderful facility, which serves thousands of Park users from the Santa Barbara and Central Coast area. |

 9/20/06 - Elings Park & Ocean Futures Society present "America's Underwater Treasures"
A flim by Jean-Michel Cousteau & his Ocean Futures 'X' Team
Back for a special screening, Movie Nights at Elings Park returns with “America’s Underwater Treasures”, a film by renowned explorer and producer, Jean-Michel Cousteau
Elings Park, in collaboration with the Ocean Futures Society, announces a special encore Movie Night with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his team of underwater explorers on September 20 at 5:30 pm. The film, “America’s Underwater Treasures” is the season finale for “Jean-Michel Cousteau Ocean Adventures” which is a nationally broadcast series on PBS television. Come experience the underwater adventures on the big screen as Jean-Michel Cousteau, his son Fabien, his daughter Celine and his team of expert divers set out for the first time to investigate all 13 national marine sanctuaries of the United States. Witness breathtaking sights like sea turtles laying their eggs on the shore in the middle of the Georgia night, and kelp forests as thick and tall as the California redwoods.
Elings Park Movie Nights premiered in June and has continued to provide fun for the whole family throughout the summer. The event begins at 5:30 PM and includes food and beverage service, goodie bags and activities for children, a raffle and booth displays featuring local environmental organizations. Jean-Michel will greet the audience and introduce his team at 7:00 PM, followed by the 2-part film.
Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and plenty of blankets to curl up in. Admission is free. There is a $12.00 parking fee, which includes goodies bags for children and a raffle ticket for door prizes. Proceeds support Elings Park and Ocean Futures Society. Elings Park Bicycle Challenge - Saturday September 9, 2006!
This is a California State Series Cross Country Race and Downhill Race
Registration at the Park: Friday Sept. 8th 5-7pm; on Saturday Sept. 9th from 7am.The site is located at Elings Park South, Cliff Drive at Jeff Elings Parkway: Go past the Elings Park main entrance on Las Positas Drive to intersection with Cliff Drive; turn left to Jeff Elings Parkway; turn left.
-Camping allowed Friday Night ONLY for $20. No open flames!
-The Cross Country Course is worth 1.5 Points, and is approximately 6 miles long with a fun mix of single track and fire roads.
- The Downhill Course winds down a 400 vertical foot hillside overlooking the ocean at Elings Park South area. The race format is a combined two-run time and begins at 1:30pm.
- The JR Olympic Short Course is a great opportunity to get your child involved in the sport of mountain biking. The race is approximately 15-20 minutes and is relatively flat. Entry fee is $20.
- Team Big Bear’s Little Guy Race- FREE! This race is open to all kids 10 and under. Just for fun! Trikes, Strollers and two-wheelers welcome!

Viva el Fido! All-Breed Dog Show and Festival
Date: Saturday, August 19, 2006
Time: 11 am – 4 pm
Location: Santa Barbara Foundation and Alice Tweed Tuohy Soccer Fields
Attendance: 400 – 600
Demographics: Families, children and dog owners
Admission: $4/person, $8/family Parking $2
Elings Park celebrates "all things dog" at the annual Viva El Fido! All Breed Dog Show & Festival. Dogs of all shapes and sizes come out for a day of fun and friendly competition in events such as Best Kisser, Highest Jumper, Best Tricks and more. Dog lovers will enjoy the various dog vendors and their offerings for pooches, dog adoption opportunities, agility courses and, most of all, the chance to make new pals for your four legged friends! Also, look forward to special demonstrations by the Santa Barbara Police K-9 Unit, showcasing their crime fighting skills and the agility dogs with their amazing speed and athleticism!

2nd Annual Santa Barbara Bicycle Festival

Last spring, the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers constructed approximately five miles of mountain bike, cross country and downhill competition trails at Elings Park, providing the Park a perfect venue in which to host this exciting event. The 2nd Annual Santa Barbara Bicycle Festival is the only festival of its kind in Santa Barbara! This successful first-ever event will feature bike vendors, as well as live music from My Life Story, Brett Dennen, and The White Buffalo, great food, Fat Tire Ale and plenty of prizes to be won.
